September Activities

T.G.I.F.

Students in grades six through twelve can play Guitar Hero, DDR (Dance! Dance! Revolution!), Playstation II, and various board games every Friday at the Riverside Branch Library from 2:30-4:30pm.

Chess Club
The Riverside Branch Library Chess Club will begin the fall chess series on Tuesday, September 30, 2008. Members, ages six through eighteen, will learn how to play chess or improve their skills. The Chess Club will run for five weeks on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 P.M., beginning September 30th and ending October 28th, 2008.

Money Talks
Let’s talk money in this interactive workshop! You will learn how to track your spending, save money, identify problem spending areas and find out how credit works. Also learn how advertising influences your spending choices and how you can improve your shopping skills. The presenter, Sheryle McMillan is an Education Specialist for Consumer Credit Counseling Services, a division of Money Management International. This past year, Sheryle facilitated 140 financial education workshops in RI and CT. This workshop takes place Monday, September 29th at 3:00pm at the Riverside Branch Library

Game Day
Play a game and have a snack on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 3pm at the Fuller Branch Library.

Locker magnets
Make a magnet for your locker on Wednesday, September 10 at 3pm at the Rumford Branch Library.

Sunflower Pens
Make a sunflower pen on Wednesday, September 24 at 3pm at the Rumford Branch Library.

Charity Day
Earn community service credit while engaging in the project of your choice. Ongoing projects include knitting blanket squares (don’t worry, we’ll provide the needles, yarn and teach you how!), writing letters to service people overseas, and making bookmarks for children at Hasbro. Other projects may be added each month.
Charity Day takes place one Tuesday per month from 2:30-4:30pm at the Weaver Library on Sep 16, Oct 21, Nov 18, & Dec 16. Grades 4 through adult are welcome.

Writer’s Group
Practice poetry and short story writing individually and as a group. You’ll get feedback and constructive criticism from other writers and have the opportunity to publish in the library’s magazine. Bring writing to share if you wish. (snacks included).The Writers’ Group meets one Monday per month, 3-4:30pm at the Weaver Library on Sept 15, Oct 20, Nov 10, & Dec 8. This group is open to students in middle and high school.

Animanga Group
Share fan fiction and art, play trivia games, try Japanese crafts and other animanga or Japanese related activities. We’ll conclude each meeting with an anime episode while sampling Japanese snacks. The Animanga Group meets one Monday per month from 3-4:30pm at the Weaver Library on Sep 22, Oct 27, Nov 17, & Dec 15. This group is open to students in middle and high school.
*Under age 13 requires parental permission. Get a form at any EPL library and bring it to your first animanga meeting.

Open Mic Café
Sing a song, recite a poem, play a tune. The mic is yours! Bring your voice, guitar, keyboard, etc. and perform for your friends café style. Bands, soloists, and/or other group acts are welcome. Food and drinks will be served. Open Mic takes place one Thursday evening a month from 6:00-7:30pm at the Weaver Library on Sep 18, Oct 16, Nov 20 & Dec 11. Open Mic is open to students in middle and high school.

All Programs and activities are FREE.
